HISTORY
Royal, Very Old, Venerable and Dominican Penitential and Sacramental Brotherhood of St. Venerated Cross, Our Mather of Church, Jesus Child and St. Resurrection of Christ, common known as "True Cross", is considered as the oldest Penitential from the city of Palencia, because its foundation is being traditionally attributed to San Vicente Ferrer in 1415, during his preaching in the city of Palencia. However, in 2006, after investigations carried out, documentary evidence that its origin comes from the joint foundation in the Monastery of St. Toribio de Liebana, by the bishops of Leon, Palencia, Oviedo and Burgos, between May and September 1181, around a relic of the Lignum Crucis.
